Visa doubles the number of ‘social baskets’ for the joint project with the VARUS supermarket chain and the Ministry of Social Policy to support Ukrainians when paying with a Visa card
Kyiv, May 3, 2022 — The Visa company became a partner of the humanitarian project of the VARUS retail chain entitled “This is for you from the bottom of my heart”, aimed at providing food baskets to socially vulnerable groups of the population during the war. Now, when paying online on the project website with a Visa card, the company will match the amount of the payment, which will allow twice as many food baskets to be provided.
Anyone wishing to help can choose one of the two types of already formed ‘social baskets’ on the project website: the one for 250 hryvnias, which includes only food, or the one for 500 hryvnias, which, in addition to food, includes hygiene products. After that, you need to decide on the destination city where the baskets will be delivered (Dnipro, Kamianske, Kryvyi Rih, Nikopol, Pavlohrad, Marhanets, Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv are currently available) and make an online payment. When paying with a Visa card, the company matches the amount paid. The doubling conditions apply regardless of the number of baskets purchased.
The VARUS company ensures the assembly and shipment of baskets, and social service workers will deliver them directly to recipients. Primarily, aid will be provided to internally-displaced Ukrainians, residents of nursing homes and orphanages, large families, etc.
“The Russian invasion significantly affected the purchasing power of Ukrainians, especially socially-vulnerable groups of the population. That is why we joined the humanitarian project of VARUS and the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine to assemble food sets for those who are in critical need. We invite Visa cardholders to join in supporting vulnerable people and will double the funds that will be spent on paying for social baskets. This will allow us to aid twice as many people. And the simple mechanics of the project and the convenient interface of the website make it easy for everyone to quickly join and become a digital benefactor,” commented Svitlana Chyrva, Visa Vice President and Country Manager for Ukraine.
“Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, millions of people have been forced to leave their homes and flee to safer cities in our country. Accordingly, there were many who found themselves in a difficult financial situation. Organizations that support socially vulnerable groups of the population struggle too. We are talking about IDPs, large families, the elderly and people with disabilities. Each of them needs help, and our project allows us to provide this help easily and quickly. And we are glad that the Visa company will double this assistance when paying with their cards from Ukraine or anywhere in the world,” said E-Commerce Executive for VARUS Oleh Spirin.
The humanitarian project of the VARUS retail chain is supported by Visa and the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine in direct cooperation with social welfare departments and lasts until the end of the month. Everyone who supports the social initiative will receive a monthly photo report on the project's results at the e-mail address given during payment.
